Area Foster Children are in for a Merry Christmas Thanks to

Donations from AdventHealth Care Teams and Local Churches

Hendersonville, NC, December 6, 2019 Dozens of children in the Crossnore School & Children’s Home foster care program are going to have a Merrier Christmas thanks to donations from AdventHealth Hendersonville Care Teams and members of local churches who sponsored them and fulfilled their Christmas wish lists. This morning, members of the AdventHealth Medical Group loaded the gifts for the children they sponsored onto a Crossnore box truck. Members of First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, Missio Dei Church, New Hope Community Church of Asheville, and Grace Community Church in Marion also brought gifts for the children they sponsored.

Crossnore School & Children’s Home has grown healthy futures for children and families in western North Carolina. In Henderson and surrounding counties, Crossnore offers community-based family foster care and outpatient and school-based clinical services. As an agency, it serves more than 1,000 children throughout the year, through a variety of programs, including residential, day treatment, outpatient and other clinical services. On any given night, close to 100 of those children are served in community foster homes, which span from Cherokee County through to the Winston-Salem area.

“Crossnore’s commitment to children mirrors the AdventHealth promise to care for all people, including children – body, mind and spirit,” said Christy Sneller, VP, AdventHealth Physician Services. “Helping make Christmas special for these children is such a special opportunity for our team members. They just took this opportunity and ran with it.”

“The state provides $20 per day for a foster child, which is the stipend that foster parents receive. So, a family who has opened their home to a sibling set of 5 can very easily find the Holiday's to be a challenging time. By fulfilling these wish lists, we as a community have helped to ease that burden for them and create more space for families to enjoy this Holiday time, rather than worry about providing gifts on a very tight budget,” said Alex Williams, Director of Foster Care & Adoptions, Crossnore School & Children’s Home.
