AdventHealth Medical Group’s Primary Care Behavioral Health Services Welcomes New Licensed Clinical Social Worker

N.C., Hendersonville, NC (September 5, 2019) — AdventHealth Medical Group’s Primary Care Behavioral Health Services welcomes Pauline “Poppy” Dyer, LISW-CP, LCSW. Dyer has more than two decades of experience in direct psychiatric care of patients ranging from children to senior adults. She has extensive training and experience in specialized behavioral health services for geriatric and medically-complex adult populations. She also has specialized training in care of chemically-dependent patients.

AdventHealth is excited to add Dyer to our Primary Care Behavioral Health Team, led by Kathryn Norfleet, MD. This group works in conjunction with our extensive Medical Group of Internal and Family Medicine physicians to meet the needs of patients who may be experiencing behavioral health concerns.

Dyer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology from the University of Florida, Gainesville. She completed her Master of Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health at Barry University School of Social Work in Miami Shores, Florida. Dyer is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

“I strive to treat my patients in a way that makes them feel as though they are my only patient, that they are special, and that there’s hope to the problems they’re having,” said Dyer. “I help patients develop a mindfulness of all aspects of their health care and educate them as to how their health in every area is connected to their overall wellness. I also ensure that I work with the other providers involved in their care so we can work together as a team to best approach patients’ health care.”

“AdventHealth has been pioneering the access to comprehensive behavioral health care for patients in our primary care settings across Western North Carolina for more than three years. In that time, we have seen a steady increase in the beneficial impact of this collaboration between a patient’s main health care provider and our behavioral health care teams. Dyer’s commitment to provide compassionate whole-person care to people experiencing mental health issues, makes her an excellent addition to our Primary Care Behavioral Health Services team,” said Christy Sneller, AdventHealth Hendersonville Vice President of Physician Services.

Dyer makes sure she finds ways to balance work and her personal life. She makes her family the primary focus of everything she does, enjoying time with her husband, twin sons and step-son. When asked what makes her “feel whole”, she responded, “I find it important to connect with and support my family and friends, to attend church with my family, to cook and eat healthy with my family, and to exercise regularly doing Pilates and cardio work.”
