AdventHealth Hendersonville Foundation Receives Grant for Vapotherm Units for Respiratory Relief

Hendersonville, NC (June 10, 2019) — The AdventHealth Hendersonville Foundation is excited to announce it has been awarded a $12,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Henderson County to fund technology that is vital to the care of patients in need of respiratory relief. In addition to the Community Foundation’s generosity, the AdventHealth Foundation Board of Directors has awarded $5,855 to cover the remaining balance for the purchase of these two Vapotherm Respiratory units.

The total $17,855 will provide HI-VNI oxygen support to 100% of the patients that require it, including adults and newborns. In the past, many patients in need were not able to receive the Vapotherm relief because the units were preoccupied by other patients. When patients in need are not able to use the Vapotherm technology, traditional ventilation that requires a mask must be used, which increases the risk of aspiration and inhibits the ability to talk, take medications, or eat. Further complications may result in invasive intubation, longer hospital stays, and greater incidence of admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). With the addition of the two new units, it is estimated that 200 or more patients will benefit from the use of the Vapotherm technology every year. With the help of these funds, respiratory care will be delivered more efficiently and comfortably to those requiring portable breathing support and relief.
