About Our Program

Welcome to the AdventHealth East Orlando PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

AdventHealth East Orlando is a not-for-profit 295-bed academic community hospital located in Orlando, Florida. Our 80-bed Emergency Department, combined with the 12-bed pediatric ED, see over 119,000 patient visits annually. We are home to two-three pharmacy residents and three separate medical residency programs (Podiatry, Family Medicine, and Emergency Medicine) and a state of the art Medical Simulation Lab. We are a clinical teaching site for several colleges of pharmacy, medicine, and nursing. We also provide a comprehensive warfarin treatment at care clinics where residency-trained, doctorate-level pharmacists manage patients with complex disease states and assist with bridging the gap between hospital discharge and community providers. Through structured medication management, pharmacists work to enhance a patient’s understanding of their health care needs in addition to preventing further hospital admissions.

Our pharmacists provide direct patient care with the multidisciplinary team in a wide variety of decentralized specialties, including Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Oncology, Ambulatory Care, Administration and Critical Care. Other clinical services offered include vancomycin dosing and monitoring, colistin dosing, aminoglycoside dosing and monitoring, metabolic support for patients requiring TPN, renal dose adjustments, and IV to PO de-escalations. Additionally, we have evidence-based rounding services in the ICU, family medicine and oncology in addition to progressive care rounds on other floors aimed at decreasing length of stay. Admission medication histories are collected and documented by certified pharmacy technicians working within the emergency department. Being part of a 9-hospital system, we are actively involved in system committees, including Clinical Pharmacy, Emergency Medicine, P&T, Pharmacy-Nursing, Medication-Safety and Antimicrobial Stewardship.

Our mission: The mission of the Pharmacy Department is to extend the healing ministry of Christ through the provision of quality pharmaceutical care to improve the patient’s quality of life, while providing support for caregivers in a way that delivers affordable, connected and exceptional care.
