New Director of Facilities

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., May 11, 2016 Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center has selected John Newman to serve as director of facilities.

In this role, he is responsible for the overall operation of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Centers engineering and clinical engineering departments, environmental services, telephone operators and switchboard department, valet services, and safety and security departments. Additionally, he serves as chairperson for the Environment of Care Safety Committee and will be responsible for ensuring the hospitals compliance to the guidelines for the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA), and Joint Commission Environment of Care, as well as Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness.

Newman has 20 years of experience in the engineering field, with more than 10 years specifically in healthcare engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Propulsion Engineer for six years and is a licensed Stationary Engineer (Power Plant Engineer).

The Flagler County resident most recently served as Facilities Manager for Florida Hospital Flagler. In December, he was recognized by the Florida Healthcare Engineering Association (FHEA) as the 2015 Engineer of the Year for District 2, which is comprised of Jacksonville, Gainesville, Coral Springs, Orlando, Graham, and Ocala. FHEA is a statewide organization comprised of active healthcare engineers and supporting members. This award recognizes Newman for his commitment and dedication to excellence, as well as his proficiency and knowledge of the trade.
