Keith C. Kim, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is board certified in general surgery with advanced training in bariatric surgery. As the Medical Director of AdventHealth Medical Group's elite metabolic and bariatric surgery team in Celebration, he leads a group that is internationally recognized for its dedication to comprehensive care and state-of-the-art treatments. Dr. Kim received his medical degree with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He edited one of the first comprehensive textbooks on robotics and general surgery, and he is the current President of the Society of Robotic Surgery. Dr. Kim is known throughout the robotic field for developing a robotic surgical technique for gastric bypass surgery that is used worldwide.

Awards & Recognition

Dr. Kim earned the John Motley Morehead Scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina, where he graduated with distinction, and the Alumni Loyalty Merit Scholarship at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he received his MD with honors. He has been recognized by his peers for his leadership and has served as president of the Society of Robotic Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Foundation Board.


Dr. Kim is passionate about teaching. He published one of the first comprehensive textbooks on robotic surgery, along with over 10 book chapters and 80 published peer-reviewed articles. He has given over 100 invited national and international lectures, organized and served as course director for over 20 major meetings, taught over 20 courses in bariatric surgery, performed live surgery in seven countries, and aught and mentored hundreds of surgeons globally.

Care Philosophy

Dr. Kim has dedicated his career to understanding and treating obesity and associated metabolic diseases. He understands that obesity is a multifactorial disease with a strong genetic component, and that it takes a multidisciplinary team and lifelong support to help patients overcome this condition.
