AdventHealth Foundation celebrates the approval of a grant from Franklin’s Friends in support of the K-9 Officer program at AdventHealth. Franklin’s Friends was founded by Monisha Seth, MD, a physician with AdventHealth Medical Group, and is dedicated to animal welfare in Central Florida.
K9 Officers are a vital part of the security program, which includes about 200 Security Officers throughout the Central Florida Division. This grant will allow the purchase of protective vests for each of the six K-9 Officers.
“Our K9 Officers help to deter negative behaviors,” said Bill Marcisz, Executive Director of Security and Safety at AdventHealth, Central Florida Division. “Certain behaviors can intimidate or be disruptive to clinical staff, but those tactics don’t intimidate a K9 – their presence sets the tone and allows other officers to safely manage situations.”
Currently, the K9s are in the field at AdventHealth Orlando and AdventHealth East Orlando. While they assist other officers with behavior maintenance and redirection, they also help to bring a positive feeling to the environment. The K9s help to keep the hospital, its staff and patients safe, and in turn, we want to keep them just as safe. The protective vests, provided by Franklin’s Friends’ support, will help to do that.
“We are very fortunate and blessed to have the support of Franklin’s Friends and we are grateful for the assistance they’ve provided to us,” Bill stated.
