Thomas Heffron MD, FACS, is a liver transplant specialist and is certified in Da Vinci Robot and Histotripsy for patients pediatric to adult. Dr. Heffron was a member of the first team in the world to perform a successful series of living donor liver transplantations at the University of Chicago. He continues to be involved in new aspects of liver surgery and enjoys seeing patients resume a full and healthy life after surgery. Dr. Heffron gives much credit to his patients' success to the great teams that help make life-changing surgery happen. His primary specialties include: hepatobiliary surgery, Histotripsy, robotic general surgery, pancreas surgery, gastrointestinal (GI) oncology, complex hernia repairs, and surgical oncology. He treats many conditions including: hernias, gallbladders, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, diverticulitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, liver metastases, hepatic cysts, adenomas, focal nodular hyperplasia, and hemangiomas. Dr. Heffron performs many robotic procedures: cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hepatic cystectomy, partial gastrectomy, hernia repairs, distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy, and small bowel and colon resections. He also performs robotic and open Whipple and pancreatic surgery and liver resections. Other surgical procedures include Microwave ablation and Histotripsy of liver tumors.
Dr. Heffron attended medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and his undergrad at Carroll College. He completed a Fellowship at the University of Chicago in Hepatobiliary and Transplant.
