Biography

Robert Greenhow, MD, FRCSC, is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement and reconstruction. He treats a wide range of orthopedic conditions, including arthritis, joint pain, tendonitis and bursitis. Dr. Greenhow’s father was a medical doctor and his mother was a nurse, and he knew from a very young age that he wanted to devote his life to healing patients and getting them back to their active lifestyles.

A native of Canada, Dr. Greenhow completed his Honors Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees at Queen’s University in Ontario. He then completed orthopedic surgery in Vancouver, British Columbia, and served as Chief Orthopedic Resident in his final year. He then completed a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship at the internationally renowned Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic in London, Ontario, earning a Diploma in Sports Medicine (CASM). Dr. Greenhow serves as a researcher, clinical instructor, international proctor, fellowship supervisor, and implant designer. He has been on the design team of several implants used worldwide-wide. He specializes in outpatient minimally invasive hip replacement using the muscle-sparing anterior approach, and minimally invasive knee replacement using kinematic alignment, patient-specific technology, and a medial-stabilized implant.

Dr. Greenhow's specialty training in arthroscopy and minimally invasive techniques lead him to pursue extensive additional training in minimally invasive joint replacement of the hip and knee, in combination with computer navigation, robotic, and patient-specific technologies. He was one of the first two surgeons in Colorado to perform the minimally invasive, muscle-sparing (MIS) Anterior hip replacement procedure beginning in 2004. Dr. Greenhow is one of the designing surgeons for a femoral stem implant used in hip replacement surgery, a patient-specific knee replacement technique (Medacta MyKnee ®) using CT scan technology and 3D printing, and a total knee replacement system which allows for improved knee kinematics and improved stability (Medacta GMK Sphere ®), all of which are being implanted around the globe.

Dr. Greenhow is currently a consultant for an international orthopedic implant company based in Switzerland (Medacta, Inc.). He serves on the Educational Advisory Boards for Anterior Approach Hip Replacement and Kinematic Alignment for knee replacements and acts as an Instructor in the US and internationally. Dr. Greenhow serves as a proctor and instructor for national and international training centers with regularly scheduled lectures and cadaveric labs. Dr. Greenhow also proctors surgeons from across the globe in their own hospitals, helping to teach the Anterior Approach technique for hip replacement and Patient-Specific technology for total knee replacement. He utilizes cutting edge techniques including outpatient joint replacement, MIS, kinematic alignment, and medial-stabilized knee replacements.

Dr. Greenhow is involved in clinical research and is one of 3 principal teaching surgeons in the Colorado Adult Reconstruction fellowship program. He has numerous scientific publications and book chapters.

Dr. Greenhow is double board-certified through both the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the Canadian Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.
