Mauricio Orrego, MD

Mauricio Orrego, MD, is committed to delivering the best medical care possible, individualized to meet the unique needs of each patient. He believes patients’ families are complementary to the healing process and invites them to be active participants in their loved one’s care.

Dr. Orrego’s clinical practice focuses on diagnosing and treating patients with advanced and/or chronic liver disease, including the evaluation and management of patients before and after liver transplant. He has a special interest in liver cancer, viral hepatitis and portal hypertension.

Dr. Orrego received his medical degree from the Universidad CES in Medellin, Columbia. He went on to complete his internal medical residency at both the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Columbia, and the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was a research fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Michigan prior to completing his gastroenterology fellowship at Javeriana University in Bogota Columbia and then his transplant hepatology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.

Prior to joining AdventHealth, Dr. Orrego was Director of the Digestive Disease Center at the San Vicente Foundation in Medellin, Columbia. He is also a former President of the Columbian Hepatology Association.

In his free time, Dr. Orrego enjoys traveling with his wife and daughter. He also has personal interests in soccer, cycling, reading and visiting museums.

Dr. Orrego provides integrative and compassionate care for patients with liver disease. He follows a patient-centric approach to care and ensures his patients are informed, their needs are heard, and they’re well cared for.
