Biography

J. Dean Cole, MD is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Trauma. He is nationally recognized as a leader in orthopaedic care with more than 30 years of experience. His reputation is built on skill, dedication to excellence, commitment to quality patient care, innovation, and a contribution to advancing orthopaedic medicine.

Dr. Cole is well known for his approach to complex procedures, such as deformity correction, bone infection treatment, calcaneus fractures, and nonunions and malunions. He has pioneered the minimally invasive approach for treating orthopaedic trauma, as well as invented numerous types of implants and devices to aid in successful surgical outcomes. The most complicated implant he has developed thus far is the first FDA approved lengthening nail to restore bone loss by infection or trauma. Additionally, utilizing the latest advances in 3-dimensional surgical planning and computer-assisted procedures, Dr. Cole has become an innovator in joint reconstruction of the knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder.

Raised in Titusville, Florida, Dr. Cole received his Bachelor of Arts from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida. He completed his Residency at the University of South Florida before finishing his Fellowship in Orthopaedic Traumatology at the University of Texas Medical School. In 1987, Dr. Cole was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, at the University of Texas Medical School. Dr. Cole returned to Florida in 1989 to begin work with Matthews Orthopaedic Clinic before entering private practice in 1997.
