Emanuel J Vlastos, MD

Emanuel “Mike” J. Vlastos, MD, is the Director of Fetal Therapy at the Children’s Mercy Elizabeth J. Ferrell Fetal Health Center. Dr. Vlastos has extensive fetoscopic surgery experience and performs minimally invasive procedures and open-uterine fetal surgery on patients who will benefit from surgery before delivery. Dr. Vlastos started his career as a family physician and later expanded his education and training to become an OB-GYN, Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist and fetal surgeon. This background allows Dr. Vlastos to look at the complete picture – not only the problem with the fetus, but with the mother and the entire family. Dr. Vlastos received his medical degree from Creighton University. He completed his family medicine residency at University of Wyoming and his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Region’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. His fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine was completed at Washington University in St. Louis. He is triple board certified in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Family Practice.
