Biography

Dr. Wassi Shaikh is a double board-certified interventional pain physician and anesthesiologist. He joined The Orthopedic Clinic in January 2026. Dr. Shaikh specializes in the treatment of all chronic pain conditions involving the spine, peripheral joints, nerves, muscles, and other complex pain syndromes.

Dr. Shaikh is trained in interventional pain procedures, minimally invasive surgical procedures, and medical management. He uses the latest research and medical knowledge to provide the best care for his patients. He has a particular interest in chronic pain of the spine, sacroiliac joint, and knee/shoulder joints.

Dr. Shaikh grew up in Detroit, MI, and was granted a presidential scholarship to attend Wayne State University. Prior to attending medical school, he participated in the Honors program and in a medical outreach trip to Haiti. He also worked as a supplemental instructor for organic chemistry undergraduate classes.

Dr. Shaikh received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He was granted a scholarship to attend medical school and was cofounder of the S.T.E.P program to prepare medical students for advanced medical exams.

After receiving his medical degree, he completed his anesthesiology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. After residency, he completed his fellowship training in interventional pain management at Northwestern University. 

He has published clinical and basic science research papers. Dr. Shaikh was elected as the FAER scholar for the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and he presented his research at national meetings.

As a pain specialist at The Orthopedic Clinic, Dr. Shaikh sees patients at the following locations: Daytona Beach, Port Orange, and Palm Coast.

Clinical Expertise

  • Spine: epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, nerve blocks and radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, minimally invasive lumbar decompression, basivertebral nerve ablation, kyphoplasty.
  • Peripheral joint: intra-articular steroid injections, nerve blocks, and radiofrequency ablation, peripheral nerve stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation.
  • SI joint: Sacroiliac joint injection and sacroiliac joint fusion.
  • Peripheral Nerve: nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, and peripheral nerve stimulation.
  • Complex Pain Syndromes: CRPS, painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, fibromyalgia, cancer pain, chronic opioid use disorder.
  • Musculoskeletal: trigger point injections, bursa injections.

    Personal Interests

    In his personal life, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, cooking, and traveling.
