Sara Thurgood, MD

Sara Thurgood, MD, is a board-certified family medicine physician caring for patients 8 and older. As part of her practice, she performs annual wellness exams, provides treatment for acute and chronic illnesses and cares for men’s and women’s health. Dr. Thurgood was drawn to a career in medicine to help and serve people in ways that change their lives for the better. She takes her medical career seriously and is dedicated to continually educating herself in her chosen field of family medicine. She believes that family medicine encompasses whole health — body, mind and spirit — from the individual to their family and their impact within their community. One part without the others is incomplete, and the best outcomes are achieved when every aspect of a person's health is addressed. She strives to ensure her patients have all the information they need to understand their health issues, the risks and benefits of treatment and prevention options, and evidence-based, personalized care plans for managing their own health. Dr. Thurgood earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed residencies in family medicine at Hunterdon Health in Flemington, New Jersey and the University of South Alabama in Mobile. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

In her free time, Dr. Thurgood enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and attending Broadway shows, musical concerts and art museums

Dr. Thurgood is committed to attending continuing medical education, consulting with other subject matter experts, conducting research and striving for innovations in the field.
