Ryan Smith, MD

Ryan Smith, MD, is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon. Dr. Smith treats a wide variety of colorectal conditions, including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, rectal prolapse and cancers of the rectum, anus and colon. He performs laparoscopic and robotic-assisted colectomies, rectopexy and hemorrhoidectomy, along with banding, fissure surgery, endoscopy and other procedures.

Dr. Smith has always had a passion for the medical field, but it became personal to him when he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. He was fortunate with his condition’s prognosis, but this experience deepened his empathy for his patients and grew a desire in him to help others overcome their symptoms.

Dr. Smith earned his medical degree at East Tennessee State University and completed his residency at the University of Tennessee-Nashville and his fellowship at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Dr. Smith is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery.

In his free time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs, mountain biking, hiking and camping.
