Mehul Patel, MD

Mehul Patel, MD, is a structural and adult congenital heart disease specialist and an interventional cardiologist caring for patients ages 13 and older at AdventHealth Tampa’s Pepin Heart Institute. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Structural Heart and Adult Congenital Heart Disease Programs at AdventHealth Tampa. Dr. Patel earned his undergraduate and medical education from Mumbai University in India. He completed post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, followed by advanced training in Interventional Cardiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He then completed a fellowship in Adult Congenital Heart Disease at Texas Children’s Hospital, Texas Heart Institute, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His passion for caring for patients with structurally complex hearts led him to pursue an additional dedicated fellowship in Structural Heart Disease at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where he trained alongside pioneers in the field. Dr. Patel previously served as Chief of Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Assistant Professor at Michigan State University, where he expanded the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program and established the percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (Melody Valve) program. He later served as Director of Structural Heart Disease and the Hybrid Lab at Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare for eight years, where he launched complex TAVR and advanced valve programs—including mitral, tricuspid, pulmonary, PFO, and congenital interventions—while also leading clinical trials as a principal investigator. He is a proctor for percutaneous valve procedures and is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. Dr. Patel has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and numerous abstracts. He co-founded the Congenital CHiP Network Journal Watch and served as Co-Editor-in-Chief.

In his free time, Dr. Patel enjoys art, music, meditation, yoga, badminton, and running.
