Jeremiah Essig, MD

Jeremiah Essig, MD, is a cardiologist with six years of clinical experience specializing in sports cardiology. He is board certified in internal medicine and adult comprehensive echocardiography. Dr. Essig earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiovascular disease fellowship at the same institution. Most recently, Dr. Essig completed focused training in sports cardiology at UNC Health, where he practiced within the Department of Cardiology and collaborated closely with the Department of Sports Medicine. He provided cardiovascular evaluation and pre-participation screening for NCAA athletes and cared for athletes and highly active individuals throughout the community. He also developed educational sessions for faculty and fellows focused on sports cardiology. Previously, Dr. Essig served as the Cardiac ICU service line leader at UNC Hospitals and participated in the UNC Health Ethics Committee’s COVID-19 policy development. He has contributed to medical research and remains committed to service, including founding a refugee youth soccer program and leading student volunteers at various free medical clinics.
