Elive Francis Likine, MD

Elive Likine, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, with a particular interest in helping patients restore function, remain active, and return to the activities that are important to them.

Originally from Michigan, Dr. Likine earned his undergraduate degree in Movement Science from the University of Michigan before attending Indiana University School of Medicine. His background in kinesiology and lifelong interest in athletics have shaped his approach to orthopedic care.

Dr. Likine completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Louisville, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident and was recognized as Resident of the Year. He subsequently pursued advanced fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa. His clinical interests include shoulder and elbow replacement, complex revision surgery, arthroscopic surgery, sports-related injuries, and the treatment of both routine and complex shoulder and elbow conditions. He also has a special interest in incorporating advanced technologies, including robotic-assisted surgery, to enhance surgical precision, personalize treatment, and optimize patient care.

Dr. Likine has a strong commitment to global health and international collaboration. He has participated in medical mission trips to Ecuador and Tanzania, contributing his time and expertise to caring for patients in underserved communities. These experiences have strengthened his commitment to advancing access to high-quality orthopedic care beyond his local community. As a member of the Gerhard Küntscher Society, Dr. Likine has had the opportunity to present his research internationally in Germany, exchange ideas with orthopedic surgeons from around the world, and contribute to the global advancement of orthopedic surgery.

Outside of medicine, fitness and an active lifestyle are important parts of Dr. Likine’s life. He is an avid runner who has completed multiple marathons and also enjoys strength training, hiking, snowboarding, and spending time outdoors. His own commitment to fitness gives him a personal appreciation for how orthopedic injuries can affect not only physical function but also a person’s overall quality of life.

Dr. Likine values building genuine relationships with his patients and working with them to develop treatment plans tailored to their individual goals. Whether that goal is returning to competitive athletics, getting back into the gym, enjoying recreational activities, or simply moving through everyday life without pain, his goal is to help each patient achieve the highest level of function and quality of life possible.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Likine enjoys spending time with his family and two dogs. He has a passion for health and fitness. He is an avid runner and strength training enthusiast who has completed multiple marathons and fitness competitions. He enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly hiking and snowboarding. When he’s not training, Dr. Likine enjoys grilling and smoking meats—particularly brisket—and cheering on Michigan football and Detroit sports.
