- Biography
-
Dr. Dominic Marino is a board-certified, fellowship-trained adult reconstruction surgeon specializing in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. He has performed thousands of knee replacements and brings extensive experience in both routine joint replacement and complex revision procedures.
His advanced fellowship training includes complex revision hip and knee surgery, minimally invasive and muscle-sparing techniques, and the use of advanced surgical technology.
Dr. Marino is a national leader in same day joint replacement and rapid recovery protocols and serves on a national outpatient surgery optimization panel with Johnson and Johnson, contributing to advancements in outpatient surgical care. He has been invited to speak at national meetings, where he has presented innovative recovery pathways that have helped advance same-day total joint surgery.
Dr. Marino is nationally and internationally recognized as a leader and educator in advanced hip and knee replacement techniques. He has trained and mentored residents, fellows, and practicing surgeons from across the United States and around the world. His recent educational contributions include participation in international revision surgery courses in Germany and India, as well as the Future Leaders Course in Florida.
He also serves as an advisor to both domestic and international implant manufacturers, applying his engineering background to help improve implant design and surgical outcomes.
Dr. Marino has had the privilege of training internationally recognized surgeons in personalized knee alignment, minimally invasive techniques, and the integration of advanced technology in total joint replacement. The Orthopedic Clinic is proud to serve as a regional educational center, supporting continued surgeon training and advancing the level of care provided to patients in Volusia County.
Dr. Marino is experienced in multiple surgical approaches, including minimally traumatic, muscle-sparing knee replacement performed through an inside (subvastus) approach that preserves the quadriceps muscle and tendon.
He pioneered the adoption of personalized kinematic alignment for knee replacement in Volusia County, a technique that restores each patient’s unique anatomy and ligament balance. Clinical studies suggest this approach may lead to faster recovery, less pain, improved motion, and a more natural-feeling knee for select patients.
Since completing his training, Dr. Marino has performed thousands of total hip replacements using the anterior approach. This muscle- and tendon-sparing technique allows for a minimally invasive procedure while supporting faster recovery. He also utilizes advanced intraoperative computer navigation to achieve precise, personalized implant positioning. This level of accuracy is designed to promote excellent outcomes, reduce complications, and support a smoother recovery for patients.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Marino has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and holds a patent related to orthopedic innovation. Prior to his surgical career, he co-founded MonoMano, Inc., an adaptive cycling company dedicated to restoring mobility and independence for individuals with hemiplegia, stroke-related impairments, and unilateral extremity limitations. This work reflects his long-standing commitment to improving function and quality of life through thoughtful design and innovation.
