Amanda Alba, CNM, WHNP-BC

Amanda Alba CNM, WHNP-BC, felt drawn to the opportunity to provide change in the healthcare system “from the inside” and pursued her calling to become a midwife. She most appreciates the opportunity to work with a diverse group of patients to understand what matters to each patient, and then create an integrated health care plan to support those decisions. Amanda treats general gynecologic health maintenance, menstrual cycle concerns, contraception, preconception, prenatal care, labor and birth, postpartum care, pregnancy loss and grieving, transitions in adolescence and menopause. She performs routine gynecologic examinations including Pap smear and STI screening, IUD insertion or removal, and contraceptive implant (Nexplanon) insertion or removal. Amanda has a deep educational history including a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and International Relations, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Masters of Science in Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, and Interprofessional Certificate in Palliative Care.

Amanda nourishes herself artistically with things like piano ballads, paint-by-numbers, drop-in dance classes, and movement meditation.

Most important to Amanda as a provider is the commitment to enter encounters with sincere attentiveness and unconditional positive regard for her patients. In return, she hopes that each patient will feel unrushed and safe enough in the space to be honest about whatever is going on with their body, or in their wider life that is having an effect on their health. Her training in religious studies, international relations, and palliative care has had a significant effect on her understanding of health and well-being as complex and multifaceted.
