Building Whole Health in West Florida
Through assessing community health needs and implementing positive changes, we’re committed to helping our West Florida communities grow healthier every year.
Our community benefit programs look to meet the needs of communities from greater Tampa Bay to the Sun Coast to Florida’s Heartland, caring for our neighbors’ physical, mental and spiritual health. We want our presence as health care providers to bring wellness to those around us. Through initiatives and partnerships with local organizations, we’re working to help our neighbors feel whole in body, mind and spirit.
We’re committed to growing deep roots in all the places we call home.
The Power of a Nationwide Network Combined With a Local Focus
-
Community Programs
Our community health programs are driven by our desire to extend whole-person healing beyond our buildings. Because caring for our patients' whole health in body, mind and spirit impacts the communities around them, we desire to shape the areas we’re in with care to embrace the whole community.
-
Community Health Needs Assessments and Plans
Every three years, we conduct community health needs assessments (CHNAs) to determine how we can help improve the lives of people who live near our hospitals. These assessments guide our plans and programming.

Our Local Programs and Initiatives
From helping people gain food security to improving health care access and quality, our community benefit programs work to meet the health needs of our communities across greater Tampa Bay, the Heartland and Port Charlotte.
We aim to identify specific health opportunities, like addressing substance misuse, and we implement tailored programs to boost whole-person health in body, mind and spirit.
- AdventHealth Food is Health®
-
The AdventHealth Food is Health® program (a regional initiative of multiple Community Health Plans) is provided at no cost for community members who do not have the means or transportation to include fresh vegetables and fruits in their diet.
With sites located near our hospitals and in underserved communities, AdventHealth Food is Health® offers education classes and screenings — in addition to fresh produce — to help improve the overall wellness of adults living in food deserts or low-income and low-access areas.
Through this food security program and others, we’re committed to working together with local community organizations and stakeholders to implement effective strategies to address obesity and access to healthy food.
- Mental Health First Aid
-
We’re establishing community partnerships with local organizations, leaders and stakeholders to work together toward reducing mental health stigma.
Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to help someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance-use-related crisis. The class helps you identify, understand and respond to signs of behavioral health crises to offer comfort and assistance to someone when necessary.
- Tobacco Cessation
-
We work with local community organizations and stakeholders to strengthen tobacco prevention and treatment resources to help others quit smoking, as well as reduce the prevalence of tobacco use among adults.
Along with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC), we offer free smoking-cessation classes. Anyone who signs up to attend a class will receive free smoking-cessation aids, like nicotine patches, gum or lozenges (when available and medically appropriate).
- American Heart Association Community CPR
-
We partner with the American Heart Association to offer free, hands-only CPR classes for the community. This train-the-trainer class allows community members to learn how to teach hands-only CPR to their family and friends. Attendees receive a free CPR kit complete with a manekin (an educational, anatomical model of the body), reminder cards and an instructional DVD.

Community Health Needs Assessments and Plans
Every three years, we conduct a community health needs assessment (CHNA) to learn the needs of our surrounding area. This assessment helps us develop a three-year plan to meet the needs of residents in our community.
