Mission: FIT Possible is a dynamic, entertaining, and educational program for elementary students in Central Florida. In school with 2nd and 4th grade students, their “edutainers” make learning fun.
Since 2012, students have become FIT Special Agents, tasked with the mission of learning more about nutrition, physical activity, emotional wellness, and restorative fitness. “I met Mission FIT over a decade ago, when I was a first-year teacher. I went to a P.E. professional development conference, and they told me they’d come and introduce healthy habits to students in a fun way. And I was like, yeah, sure, let’s try this out. And now I’ve invited them back every single year,” Coach Frank Allen from Ocoee Elementary shared on his appreciation for Mission: FIT. “They do an amazing job of making it fun. The kids don’t even realize they’re retaining this information. They make the things kids don’t want to hear and they make it fun. They make it relatable. They make it easy for them to understand.”
FIT Special Agents receive a special badge at the beginning of their training and a sticker for every mission they complete. Following Florida State Standards, students learn about nutrition, emotional wellness, physical fitness, and how to recharge. In the past school year and across their 21 participating schools, Mission: FIT reported a 13% increase in students who eat fruits and vegetables every day, a 36% increase in students who exercise every day, and a 92% increase in students knowing what screen time was—all after participating in Mission: FIT.
Creating Mission: FIT Special Agents across 150 schools in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole county, Mission: FIT Program Manager Melissa Williams expanded on what she hopes for Mission FIT in the future: “Mission FIT is like my heart and soul. We have about 30 schools on our waitlist that we just don’t have the capacity for at the moment. This is a really important program that AdventHealth is providing for our community.” Supported by philanthropy, Mission: FIT Possible is a program for kids unlike any other – helping them learn about wellness by having fun.
