For many veterans, the transition from military service to civilian life can bring an unexpected challenge: finding a renewed sense of purpose. At AdventHealth Celebration, many former service members have rediscovered that purpose — this time by caring for patients, supporting teammates and continuing a life dedicated to service. A few of our veteran team members share how military service prepared them for their roles at AdventHealth Celebration.
Continuing a Life of Service
“A lot of veterans, when they get out [of the military], they feel like they’re losing that sense of purpose,” explains Carlo, a certified surgical technologist and member of the U.S. Air National Guard. “I feel like healthcare is the perfect place to replace that.”
For many, joining the military is a calling rooted in discipline, teamwork and a deep commitment to others. Those same qualities naturally carry over into healthcare, where every role contributes to a shared mission: helping people feel whole.
“Once we get out and we go into healthcare, we’re still serving,” shares Fabio, an RN first assistant and U.S. Navy veteran.
For veterans like Fabio and Carlo, stepping into a hospital environment doesn’t mean leaving their past behind. Instead, it becomes an extension of everything they’ve learned — from staying calm under pressure to working seamlessly as part of a team.
Whether in the operating room, at patients’ bedsides or behind the scenes, their military experience shapes how they show up each day for patients and colleagues.
Strength in Teamwork
Working in healthcare, much like the military, is a team effort that requires trust, communication and the ability to remain calm in high-stress moments. Veterans bring a unique perspective to these environments. Their training often prepares them to think quickly, act decisively and support others no matter the situation — all qualities that can make a meaningful difference in patient care.
At AdventHealth Celebration, those strengths don’t go unnoticed. Veterans are valued not only for their technical skills but also for their leadership, resilience and commitment to the people around them.
Finding Belonging in a New Mission
Beyond purpose, many veterans also experience a strong sense of belonging within the AdventHealth Celebration team.
“What made me feel at home is the people, the culture and the team,” Carlo shared.
That culture of connection is intentional. At AdventHealth, we’re committed to creating an environment where veterans feel welcomed, supported and empowered to grow. From mentorship opportunities to career development pathways, team members are encouraged to build meaningful careers that honor both their past experiences and future goals.
Investing in Those Who Served
We actively invest in recruiting and supporting veterans as they transition into healthcare careers. With dedicated resources, career pathways and a commitment to professional growth, veterans can build fulfilling roles across a wide range of specialties at AdventHealth.
Additionally, we’ve taken the Military.com Veteran Hiring Pledge, reinforcing this commitment to creating opportunities for those who have served and helping them translate their skills into impactful careers that continue to serve others.
