Why Jaime’s Cancer Diagnosis was an “Unexpected Blessing”
Ever since she was a little girl, Jaime Gill loved to read. She had always dreamed of becoming an author to tell stories. But now, Jaime is telling a story she never imagined: her breast cancer journey and going into remission.
Jaime’s Journey
Jaime has always been passionate about connecting with others because she believes that we can continuously learn from one another. This belief is what inspired her to dedicate her life to sharing not only her own story, but others’ stories as well.
For Jaime, her desire to become an author grew into a reality. But over time, her passion for storytelling left her exhausted. “I became a workaholic. I didn’t sleep much and my eating habits were unhealthy,” said Jaime. “But I never would have thought that something so dark and tragic would happen to me.”
Her story took a dramatic twist when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. But because of her faith, support from friends and family and her care team at AdventHealth, she was able to rewrite the script of her life.
A Life-Changing Perspective
“Cancer was never on my bingo card of life. But at the end of the day, I’m glad it was,” said Jaime. “And I know that may be strange for people to hear, but I have not only obtained a better perspective on healthy living, but also being sensitive to what other people may be going through.”
Jaime shares that it was because of her breast cancer diagnosis that she grew more aware of the foods she ate and the necessity of a good night's sleep. But more than that, she learned how vital it is to live a holistic life, implementing healthy habits to boost her health, joy and resilience.
“I can make the necessary decisions to have the things I want in life, which is a good, healthy life. If you don’t have good health, what do you really have?”
Uncommon Compassion in a Care Team
“AdventHealth has literally been a beacon of hope, life and love for me,” said Jaime. “And the doctors and nurses that were assigned to me, they’re my angels. I know that if it weren't for my faith and these amazing medical professionals, I wouldn’t be standing before you today. I will forever love my medical team, and I will forever give praises to AdventHealth.”
Jaime continues to tell her story today to bring hope to those who need it most.
