What is HYDROS Aquablation?

“HYDROS Aquablation is an advanced, minimally invasive robotic procedure for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) that uses a heat-free, robotically guided waterjet to precisely remove excess prostate tissue,” says Dr. Trabucco.

How does the HYDROS Aquablation procedure work?

The HYDROS system is considered an evolution of standard Aquablation, offering a more streamlined and precise approach to treating BPH.

Dr. Trabucco explans, “It combines real-time ultrasound imaging with a leading-edge robotic system to improve accuracy, which reduces risks of sexual dysfunction and incontinence that are more common with traditional surgeries.”

Who are good candidates for the HYDROS Aquablation procedure?

Good candidates for HYDROS Aquablation are men with symptomatic, enlarged prostates (BPH) seeking a minimally invasive, heat-free alternative to traditional surgery.

Dr. Trabucco states, “HYDROS Aquablation is particularly suitable for men with any prostate size — especially large prostates — who want relief from urinary symptoms while reducing the risks of sexual dysfunction and improving their recovery time.”

Which conditions can the HYDROS Aquablation procedure effectively treat?

“The procedure is specially designed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate,” explains Dr. Trabucco. He continues, “It effectively treats the symptoms associated with BPH, including weak urinary stream, urgency, frequency and incomplete bladder emptying, whatever the size or shape of the prostate gland.”

What can patients expect the day of the HYDROS procedure?

Dr. Trabucco shares, “The day of your HYDROS procedure, you can expect a 2- to 3-hour recovery period after the surgery, which is performed under anesthesia. Most patients stay overnight in the hospital, but same-day discharge is possible. A urinary catheter will be in place to manage bladder irrigation for 1 to 3 days following your surgery.”

What is recovery like after the HYDROS procedure?

“Recovery from the HYDROS Aqublation procedure is generally quick with the goal of restoring normal urinary function with little disruption to your daily life. Most patients return to their normal routines within 1 to 3 weeks, with significant improvement in urinary symptoms” explains Dr. Trabucco.
