Recipe Ingredients
2 cups
fresh or frozen pitted cherries
1 tablespoon
lemon juice
Optional: 1-2 tablespoons
pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons
chia seeds
Preparation
Place cherries, lemon juice and optional maple syrup in a small saucepan and heat over medium-high heat. Use a potato masher or large fork to mash the cherries up a bit and stir frequently until they are heated thoroughly. Once the cherries begin to bubble up, turn heat down to a simmer cook for 1-2 more minutes.
Turn off the heat and stir in chia seeds. Allow the fruit and chia seed mixture to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
Store in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed container for up to 7 days.
