Life Happens — We’re Here to Help
Each year during Open Enrollment, you'll have the opportunity to review and make changes to your benefits. But life doesn't always wait for Open Enrollment. Certain life changes — such as getting married, having a baby or losing other coverage — are called qualifying life events (QLEs) and may allow you to update your benefits outside of the open enrollment period.
Here's what you need to know:
- If you experience a qualifying life event, you may be eligible to update your benefits to reflect your new situation.
- Most qualifying life events must be reported within 30 days of the event.
- If you or one of your dependents becomes eligible for a government-sponsored health plan (such as Medicare, Medicaid, KidCare or TRICARE), you have 60 days to notify AdventHealth and remove that coverage, if applicable.
- Your benefit changes generally become effective as of the qualifying life event or another plan-defined effective date. Because there may be a delay between the event, your request and the enrollment being processed, claims incurred during that period may be reprocessed or reimbursed, if applicable.
- Visit the Qualifying Life Events article in Workday to learn which life events qualify, when changes must be reported, what documentation is required and how to update your benefits.
Tip: Keeping your benefits up to date ensures you and your loved ones have the coverage you need — because life doesn’t wait, and neither should your benefits.

Your benefit changes are generally effective as of the date of your qualifying life event. If claims are incurred before your request is processed, they may be reprocessed or reimbursed, if applicable.
Adding new dependents?
We'll verify their eligibility to ensure they're enrolled correctly. It's a quick and easy process that helps ensure your loved ones receive the coverage they're eligible for. -
