Adoption Support
AdventHealth is proud to be recognized as a Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption — 2024 Adoption Advocate. This designation honors organizations that actively support team members who choose to grow their families through adoption or foster care.
Our mission includes caring for the whole you — and that means supporting working parents through financial assistance, paid leave options and resources that make the adoption journey more accessible and supported.
Support for Your Growing Family
Adoptive parents often face significant financial, emotional and logistical challenges. AdventHealth’s Adoption Assistance Program helps relieve some of those burdens by offering:
- Financial reimbursement for eligible adoption‑related expenses
- Paid leave options to support bonding and transition
- Resources and guidance to help team members navigate the adoption process
Our goal is to ensure every team member feels supported, valued and empowered as they grow their family.
- Eligibility
-
- Available to full‑time benefits eligible team members.
- Eligibility begins on the first day you become benefits eligible.
- If both spouses work at AdventHealth, only one may use the benefit.
- Applies to domestic and international adoptions.
- Reimbursable Expenses & Benefit Amount
-
AdventHealth reimburses up to $10,000 per adoption for tax‑qualified adoption expenses.
Eligible expenses may include:
- Agency fees
- Court costs and legal fees
- Required travel
- Placement fees
Not eligible for reimbursement:
- Adopting a spouse’s child
- Surrogacy-related expenses
Expenses must be incurred on or after your benefits eligibility date, and the adoption must be finalized before reimbursement is issued.
- How the Reimbursement Process Works
-
- Start by submitting a Workday Help case to notify HR Shared Services (HRSS) that your adoption has been finalized.
- HRSS will then grant you access to the Optum Financial Adoption Assistance portal.
- Create your Optum Financial account (if you haven't already) and upload your eligible adoption expense documentation.
- Submit all eligible expenses incurred during the calendar year by March 31 of the following year.
- Adoption leave may be protected under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), if eligible.
- International Adoptions
-
For adoptions finalized outside the U.S.:
- You must submit official English translations of legal adoption documents.
- AdventHealth may request itemized receipts, translated and shown in USD.
