Longitudinal Learning
In addition, our residents participate in the following longitudinal curricular components throughout their 4 years of training:
- Continuity Clinic
-
A half-day of continuity clinic is incorporated into most clinical rotations, giving residents the opportunity to see and treat a range of obstetric and gynecologic conditions. To adequately prepare our residents to provide the best care possible and ensure that they feel well-supported while doing so, we carefully consider patient volume, acuity and complexity when scheduling patients in our resident clinic.
- Simulation-Based Training
-
Our comprehensive simulation-based training curriculum serves as a complement to clinical rotations and allows residents to further hone their skills in a safe and supportive learning environment. The PGY-1 year begins with an “Intern Boot Camp” in which incoming residents participate in simulated vaginal deliveries and perineal laceration repairs. Throughout their training, residents also participate in an interdisciplinary Simulation for Perinatal Obstetrics Partnership Program that focuses on managing obstetric emergencies. Additional simulation experiences include the Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (EMIGS) Program and a detailed robotics curriculum.
- Resident Team-Based Research (RTR)
-
The Resident Team-Based Research (RTR) curriculum is an innovative approach to facilitating resident and faculty involvement in scholarly activities. Residents are taught about research methodology and tasked to design a research question of their choosing. They then go on to implement their respective research projects in collaboration with their co-residents and assigned faculty coaches, with the goal of producing high-quality, meaningful scholarly activity.
- Wellness Curriculum
-
Our wellness curriculum is heavily supported at an institutional level and aims to support residents from even before their first day of residency to graduation. We employ a full-time Director of Physician Wellness who has developed a comprehensive program to promote wellness within all residency programs here at AdventHealth. The goals of the wellness program are to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle for residents and faculty while also giving attention to organizational and environmental factors that impact physician well-being. These interactive sessions cover topics such as fatigue management and recognizing impairment, professional identity formation, work-life integration, and many more.
Training Sites
Primary clinical training occurs mainly at the AdventHealth Tampa hospital campus.
Training Sites
Simulation Lab at AdventHealth Tampa provides a space for residents to practice surgical procedures without risking patient safety. By training here, you gain valuable experiences using highly realistic, procedure-specific training scenarios that mimic tools most commonly seen in the field. This space has a customizable floor plan which allows the rooms to be joined/divided into three rooms. 24/7 access is available for fellows to practice procedures and learn through simulation modules.
Training Sites
The outpatient clinic is located at AdventHealth Medical Group Obstetrics and Gynecology at Bruce B Downs, where residents provide comprehensive, whole-person care alongside experienced faculty physicians.
