
Dominick Mastroianni, MD
Program Director
Dr. Dominick Mastroianni received his medical degree from the University of South Florida. He trained in Internal Medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and completed his Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has been on staff at AdventHealth Orlando since 2011. He has worked on improving system Palliative Care practices, including a multiple hospital-wide update and implementation on advance directives and code status within a large Healthcare System, as well as in the community through the Conversation Ready Project in Winter Park. He has worked in education through interactive workshops and electives with Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Family Medicine, and Geriatrics. He leads the AdventHealth Orlando Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.

David Buxton, MD
Palliative Care Specialists Medical Director
David Buxton, MD completed his medical school training at Virginia Commonwealth University where he graduated with Honors in Psychiatry. He went to Brown University for his Adult Psychiatry Residency and Harvard Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship. Dr. Buxton became the first psychiatrist to complete the Harvard MGH/Dana-Farber Palliative Care Fellowship. He founded the Center for Palliative Psychiatry and started the first Palliative Care Team in the Hospital Corporation of America system at CJW Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia as the Medical Director. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at VCU, a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Buxton is considered an expert in the topic of adult psychiatry, child psychiatry and palliative care with presentations at local, national and international conferences. Dr. Buxton is board certified in all three medical specialties. He provides consultations to multiple start-ups, insurances and health care systems.
Dr. Buxton is the Executive Medical Director of Palliative Medicine for AdventHealth – South Division. He serves as the Director for the Palliative Care Inpatient Consulting Service and Inpatient Palliative Care Unit at AdventHealth Orlando. His research is on digital legacy concepts and empowering patients to talk about the 'unmentionables' in healthcare.

Eric Moore, MD, MBA
Dr. Moore received his Bachelor of science degree from Oakwood University in Huntsville Al., He completed his MD degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, he completed his internship and residency at The AdventHealth Orlando Family Medicine Residency Program. He served as Family Medicine Faculty for the MD program at AdventHealth Orlando and preceptor faculty for the AdventHealth Orlando DO program. Dr. Moore completed 11 years of private Family Practice before becoming the Chief Medical officer for Hospice of the Comforter and currently serves as its Executive Medical Director.
He is board certified in Family Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Moore has also completed an MBA Degree from Webster University. He has been married for 19 Years and has 2 children 15 and 12 years old. Dr. Moore has a passion for end of life care and enjoys educating the community about the benefits of hospice services.

Michelle Covington, MD
Hospice Rotation Director
Dr. Michelle Covington is a native of Jamaica and a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. She completed residency training in family medicine at the Columbus Regional Health in Columbus, Georgia in 2016. She then went on to pursue fellowship training in hospice and palliative medicine at Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia and graduated in 2017. She is board certified in family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine. She has a passion for end-of-life care and has been a practicing hospice physician since 2016.

Amanda Bashir, MD
Pediatrics Rotation Director
Amanda M. Bashir, MD, is a board certified pediatrician who recently completed her fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 2019. Dr. Bashir received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN in 2009. After college, she came closer to home to complete her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2013. She completed her pediatric residency in St. Louis, MO at Washington University/St. Louis Children's Hospital where she also served as Chief Resident, spent a year as a Pediatric and Newborn Hospitalist, and then completed her pediatric palliative care fellowship. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She joined AdventHealth Medical Group in August 2019 as the Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) physician. She has a special interest in perinatal palliative care and medical education.

Alex Lavigne, DO
Palliative Care Clinic Leader
Dr. Lavigne is a board-certified hospice and palliative medicine physician. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. He completed his internal medicine training at the Carolinas Healthcare System - Blue Ridge program in North Carolina. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Blaine B. Pitts, MD
Pediatrics Rotation Faculty
Blaine B. Pitts, MD, is board-certified physician in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Pitts graduated with honors from St. George University School of Medicine in 2005 and he completed his Pediatric residency at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He also completed a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care at Akron Children's Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Pitts is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been in practice for over 10 years.”
