About Our Fellowship Curriculum

The curriculum is structured around the six ACGME Core Competencies: Patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism and system-based practice. The fellowship curriculum also addresses and fulfills recommendations for best practices in gastroenterology training from the Gastroenterology Core Curriculum, a directive put forth by the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the American Society for Gastroenterology Endoscopy (ASGE).

Outpatient clinics, inpatient consultation services, state-of-the-art Center for Interventional Endoscopy and established robust programs in motility, fatty liver and IBD provide the framework for clinical training in gastroenterology and hepatology at AdventHealth.

The first year of the fellowship will offer intensive clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings with an emphasis on the diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of GI and liver diseases.

The second- and third-year curricula further build upon the skills gained in first-year training while incorporating experiences in advanced hepatology, motility and pancreato-biliary disease and facilitating more consultative and endoscopic experience.

Our faculty members have trained in various geographic locations and have come from prestigious training programs, and they are eager to teach you.

Training Sites

Senior fellows will rotate through the Center for Interventional Endoscopy. A leading-edge approach in gastroenterology, the center offers minimally invasive solutions for complex GI conditions, integrating advanced imaging, specialized instruments and technical expertise.

Training Sites

Simulation Lab at AdventHealth Tampa provides a space for fellows to practice surgical procedures without risking patient safety. By training here, you gain valuable experiences using highly realistic, procedure-specific training scenarios that mimic tools most commonly seen in the field. This space has a customizable floor plan which allows the rooms to be joined/divided into three rooms. 24/7 access is available for fellows to practice procedures and learn through simulation modules.

Application Process

Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency and be eligible for medical licensure in the U.S. Early involvement in scholarly activities and research during residency strengthens the application, and mentoring is highly recommended to navigate the competitive match process effectively.

Qualified fellowship candidates must have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. Our program supports diversity and seeks to be inclusive of all racial, religious, gender, and ethnic groups. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), submitting a personal statement, letters of recommendation, medical school transcripts, MSPE and USMLE scores. Interviews are scheduled by invitation in September and October. All interviews are held virtually. Fellowship positions are filled through the match (NRMP).
